This web page outlines the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (i.e., Fire Prevention Code or SFPC) hearth security necessities and prohibitions associated to the operation and storage of portable heating tools in Fairfax County and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, and Vienna. It doesn't deal with open-flame cooking units, portable outdoor fireplaces, or the installation and upkeep of non-portable heating appliances. The intent of this page is to supply data to assist stop undesirable fires resulting from the unlawful or unsafe operation and/or storage of portable heating gear. In addition to specifying the regulations prohibiting the operation and storage of portable heaters, fire safety, and precautionary data related to the operation of those units is provided. PORTABLE HEATING Equipment. Portable heating tools (i.e., portable heaters) may be usually defined as portable, objective-constructed tools designed to safely heat the air in an enclosed area or open area in proximity to the alpha heater price.



Section 603.4.2 of the Fire Prevention Code particularly regulates portable out of doors gas-fired heating appliances, commonly often called patio heaters. These portable heating appliances are typically configured as a free-standing pole, common with a Alpha Heater product page and reflector dome/shield at the highest, with a broad base arranged for the storage of a 20-pound propane (LPG) cylinder. These appliances could also be designed to seem and function as portable out of doors fireplaces or tall patio tables. Clearance to Combustible Materials. Installation & Maintenance. Portable outside gas-fired heating appliances shall be installed and Alpha Heater product page maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Tip-over Switch Required. Portable outside fuel-fired heating appliances shall be outfitted with a tilt or tip-over swap that mechanically shuts off the stream of fuel if the appliance is tilted more than 15 levels from the vertical. Guard Against Contact Required. The heating component or combustion chamber of portable outside gasoline-fired heating appliances shall be completely guarded to forestall accidental contact by persons or material. Approved Containers. Only authorised DOTn or ASME gasoline containers shall be used. Container Replacement Restriction. Replacement of gasoline gas containers in portable out of doors fuel-fired heating appliances shall not be carried out whereas the public is present. Container Capacity Limitation. The utmost individual capacity of fuel containers used in reference to portable outside gas-fired heating appliances shall not exceed 20 pounds. Prohibited Storage of Containers. Gas containers shall not be stored inside of buildings, or in any location close to exit entry doors, exits, stairways, or areas normally used, or meant for use, as a technique of egress.



Containers not related for Alpha Heater product page use shall not be saved on roofs. Outside Storage of Containers. Gas containers approved for exterior storage shall be located in a manner that minimizes exposure to excessive temperature rise, bodily injury, Alpha Heater product page and/or tampering, which features a lockable, ventilated steel cabinet or other authorised enclosure. Outside Storage/Use Permit. Where greater than 10 gallons (i.e., 42.5 pounds) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is stored and/or used outdoors, a hearth Prevention Code Permit (FPCP) is required. Shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the itemizing and instructions. Shall be operated only in places for which they are listed. Shall be plugged instantly into an accepted receptacle. Shall not be plugged into extension cords. Shall not be operated inside 3 ft of any combustible materials. Heating components shall be permanently guarded so as to stop unintentional contact by individuals or material. Group I-2 Exception. The use of portable, electric space heaters by which the heating element can not exceed a temperature of 212°F shall be permitted in non-sleeping staff and worker areas in occupancies in Group I-2.
